Culinary Pro Lab: Foundations in Cooking and Kitchen Skills

This 12-week course introduces participants to essential cooking techniques and kitchen practices through engaging, hands-on lessons. Designed to build confidence and practical skills, this program equips students with knowledge they can apply in both home and commercial kitchen settings. Half the class will be taught in a classroom setting, and in the second half of the class participants will also have opportunities to explore and experience a commercial kitchen environment.
Highlights of the Program:

  • Kitchen Hygiene and Safety: Learn the importance of cleanliness and organization to create a safe and efficient cooking environment.
  • Essential Tools and Equipment: Gain familiarity with everyday kitchen tools such as measuring cups, spoons, mixing bowls, pots, pans, ovens, and knives.
  • Core Cooking Techniques: Develop key skills like accurate measuring, proper knife handling, and understanding kitchen workflows.
  • Practical Kitchen Know-How: Explore techniques and tools used in commercial kitchens, while mastering skills that translate easily to home cooking.
  • ServSafe Integration: The ServSafe curriculum will be referred to throughout the course, providing valuable food safety knowledge and best practices.

The course emphasizes hands-on practice and real-world applications, offering participants a well-rounded foundation in essential cooking skills that are useful in any kitchen setting.
